Sneak Peek - Baby K | La Crosse Wisconsin Baby Photographer

Such a fun little fellow we had in the studio a bit ago!  Rocking a beautiful set of new teeth and gigantic baby blues, he was just as fun as could be!  He works for applause, as was evident when mom, dad, and grandma all started clapping for him and the smiles broke out!  At only 11 months old (just about to be one), he was a total character.  He even knew how to rock his dad's tie!
I met his mom during a round of photography courses that I teach at Western Technical College (Photo Techniques 1-4) and I got to see many adorable photos of him before I even met him in person!  With such sweet subjects, is there any doubt as to why I love session days?!

Sneak Peek - The S Family | Onalaska Wisconsin Family Photographer

Sometimes you just have to let loose and have some fun and this family was definitely prepared for that!  Plus, don't you just love that candy stained tongue from the little guy in the front?!  With grandparents, grown siblings, and the newest kids in the family, this group got everyone together for a big family shot.  It must have been all the turkey they ate the day before (which was Thanksgiving) that inspired this silliness, but it was well worth it (especially since it lead to some very cute smiles in the following images)!  Grandma R is actually enrolled in the Photo Composition courses (renamed Photo Techniques for next semester) that Savanna teaches at Western Technical College, so it was really wonderful getting to meet the rest of her crew! The Art & The Updates | La Crosse Wisconsin Photographer

I have always had a place in my heart for successful diptych images (two images displayed side by side, cohesive in nature - as defined by me).  So, I suppose it makes sense that so many of my fine art images end up diptychs!  This one was no exception.  This was from a very short series I did a while back in which I was challenging myself to view my surroundings in black and white and all the lovely shades of gray in between.  Every now and then, I like to force myself out of my normal comfort zone for personal projects such as that.  Anyway, I think it was definitely a worthwhile way to spend a 6 hour drive (to and from) and a weekend in the Minnesota cities!

Speaking of artwork, I'm very proud to announce that I am officially an award winning, internationally published photographer!  That is a wonderfully fulfilling accomplishment for myself and my business.  For at least a year or so now, I've been able to hold the official title of award winning, published photographer, but, recently, one of my images was published in a British territory near Spain, allowing me the amazing opportunity of adding "international" to the title!  And, as if that wasn't exciting enough, the image was of the La Crosse's own Riverside Park eagle statue that's featured here!  Needless to say, this photographer is having a wonderfully happy 2012 so far!

One last note, as I've been doing for some time now, I'm still teaching photography courses (and, hopefully expanding with a few new courses in the Fall) at Western Technical College, through their Lifelong Learning program.  If you're interested in taking some of these courses, visit their website and look for the instructor named Westbrook (that's me)!  Hope to see you there!

Little E! | Onalaska Wisconsin Child Kid Photographer

Little E is full of spunk!  She played a little hiding game while I was testing lights and then brought out the real modelling skills with this over-the-shoulder glance!  She is just such a cutie!  Her mom my partner in crime for wedding photography and I get to visit little E whenever we get together!  Her big brother is just as cute too, but he wasn't in a photography mood this afternoon!  I can't wait until I get to see them again!  =)

Also, don't forget to sign up soon for my newest course at Western Technical College - Lifelong Learning.  It's called Black and White Technique and it starts this Thursday, so sign up soon before it fills up!  I can't wait to see you there!

The High School

I had a great time talking with students at West Salem High School today!  The Entrepreneurship Class was awesome and so was the instructor!  I got to meet some awesome students and they asked some great questions!  They were so great (and several students expressed interest in portraits) that I decided to develop a special promotion dedicated to West Salem High School Students and their families!  Book a session sometime during this school year and save!  Just make sure to mention the high school!

The Sun's Faces

Sometimes some of the best images come from these abstract, high contrast situations.  I absolutely love finding these situations!  I'm working on putting together a course called Black & White Technique all about learning how to "see" in black and white and how to post-process specifically for black and white.  I almost wish there were some sort of contact lenses out there that would allow a person to only see in black and white (and shades of gray).  I think that'd be awesome to try for a day (although, I absolutely freak out just putting eye drops in my eye, so I probably couldn't enjoy them anyways)!  For now, we photographers just have to settle with teaching our minds to view the world in monochromatic colors!

The Courses

That's right, now's the time, to sign up for these classes and get to snappin!  The best thing I ever did for myself, my business, and my art was to take courses in photography!  Not only do you get to learn about photography, you also get to interact with other photographers, gain practical experience/knowledge, learn tips from the pros, share your own advice, and have fun while doing it all!  Don't hesitate any longer.  If you're near the La Crosse campus, sign up for these once-a-week classes!  They're packed with great information and they're taught by me!

I'll be teaching the three series of the Photo Composition course, plus a brand new course that WTC and I developed - Infant Photography.  If you have an infant, will be having an infant, plan to have an infant, know an infant, love infants, etc. then this is the course for you!  It'll teach you everything you need to know about photographing those little ones!

I'd love to see you in class, so log-on, call in, or mail your registration before the classes fill up!

The Photo Course(s)

Hey all!

I wanted to invite everyone to register for the class I'll be teaching at Western Technical College during the summer.  It's entitled Photo Composition - Beginner and it's going to be super fun!  You'll be able to learn all the basics about taking a good photo with the camera you own!  This upcoming Fall semester, I'll be teaching the Photo Composition - Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced courses as well as Infant Photography!  So if you want to brush up your photography skills or even enhance your already awesome ones, just register with WTC!  I hope to see you there!
