{The Lovely Miss L} Tomah Wisconsin Senior Photographer

Oh.  My.  Gosh!  How gorgeous is this lady?!  We had the pleasure of spending some time over the holiday weekend with her and the rest of my husband's family (she is my brother-in-law's girlfriend).  Of course, I couldn't resist asking her if she'd pose for me and my camera!  (Everyone in my family and many of my friends have discovered that, at some point in their relationship with me, I will ask them to model for me!)  She has these gorgeous tattoos on her shoulders/back.  She's also a very organic person, enjoying nature and the Earth's offerings.  So naturally, when the inspiration of natural styled images struck, she was the first one I turned to!  We spent about 30 minutes before her shoot doing some natural, nude based make-up and a lovely french braid that swept rather haphazardly along the back of her head and fell into a low side ponytail over her shoulder.  I was so happy how feminine and smooth her look was and how her stunning green eyes blended with the amazing foilage we found in Tomah, Wisconsin!  All in all, she was a happy model and I was a happy photographer!

{Spring in La Crosse} Onalaska Wisconsin Photographer

Yep, you read that right - it's finally Spring in La Crosse!  It only took about half a year to arrive but it arrived nonetheless.  And we're not complaining!  Before a shoot the other day, I had the chance to sneak over to a Friendship Gardens (near Riverside Park, La Crosse, WI) and capture some gorgeous images of the recent blooms.  With all that color, my eyes were totally overwhelmed - in a very joyous way!  Yes, La Crosse Wisconsin really has some gorgeous flowers this year.  Combine that with the lovely evening light and this photographer was one happy snapper!  We definitely want to share the season so make sure to let us know if you're in need some some of these prints to freshen up your home or office space (you can comment on this post or e-mail us at savanna@endlessimagesphotography.com).

{Flowers in the winter...} Tomah Wisconsin Photographer

What a beautiful way to spend a very cold (-40s) evening in Wisconsin!  My husband, Trent, and I picked up some flowers at a local retail store and set up our still life studio on our kitchen island.  It's always fun relaxing with some subjects that don't even blink (although, I do love the excitement of a portrait shoot)!  But, we decided to keep it simple with gorgeously controlled and manipulated lighting, posed blooms, and deep toned backdrops.  Trent normally shoots wildlife and nature scenes and subjects, so a still life was a nice little change since getting the camera gear outside in these temps is just not fun!  Now it's back to business after a bit of play...

The Butterfly or The Moth? | Onalaska Wisconsin Photographer

This fuzzy little guy (or girl?) was flying around the Zinnias we've been growing out back, so of course, I couldn't resist getting a quick shot!  Luckily, he was very cooperative and allowed me to snap quite a few shots before fluttering off in search of other sweet flowers.  But, as I was editing the images, I realized, I really have no idea what he was: a butterfly or a moth?  So, I putting the question to all of you out there, does anyone know?  (Curiosity always gets the best of me!)

The Farm Experience | Onalaska Wisconsin Commercial Photographer

Recently, I began working with a local publication called Greens Coulee Life, a magazine exclusive to the neighborhoods in Onalaska behind Coulee Golf and Bowl.  As one of the assignments, I was asked to photograph a local community farm located in the middle of the neighborhoods called Clearwater Farms.  It was quite the cool experience!

Besides seeing all the neat animals, including Frosty the (very friendly) Donkey and a very ferocious cat (who was actually just sleepy and yawning quite frequently), I learned quite a lot!  There were fancy chickens that actually produce eggs (I was told nothing beats a fresh egg) and a wonderful garden area where huge, healthy plants were growing.  The farm even offers special activities for members and other groups to participate in.

The Recent Artwork | La Crosse Wisconsin Photographer

Though it has been a slow transformation into Spring, we are finally starting to see some of the all too gorgeous signs!  The beautiful blooms above not only photograph beautifully, they're also quite fragrant, which was a pleasant surprise while I was shooting.  Speaking of, does anyone know the name of this flower/tree?  If so, comment below please, I'm curious and definitely not a horticulturist!  Best part of it all, this tree is only a 30 second walk from my home in Onalaska, Wisconsin!

The beautiful birds above and below were caught hanging out by the Mississippi River in Riverside Park here in La Crosse, Wisconsin.  A friend from college arranged a day of shooting (shutter-wise, no bullets involved) and though we didn't track down any highly prized eagles, we did find many happy ducks and some very hungry seagulls.  Plus, we didn't have to work too hard running after the ducks, as quite a few children were having a blast tossing bits of bread to the glutinous waddlers!  That's when the rude seagulls would swoop in to steal the bread - it was quite a sight!

One April evening, my sister and I were driving to and from in Onalaska, Wisconsin when we noticed the stunning moon.  Luckily, I had my camera with me (which is actually a much rarer occurrence that you'd assume, considering my profession) and a nice zoom lens, allowing me to capture a wonderfully close shot!  Quite a satisfying end to the day!  All in all, it's been a really wonderful month or so, being able to shoot a bit for my personal portfolio.

Another diptych of my latest series.  To be felt rather than viewed.

The Blurs Series | Wisconsin Art Photographer

From a new series I've been working on entitled Blurs; a large collection of images that have no discernible details, but which are rich in tonality and movement which guides your eyes through the scene.  It's meant to be a tranquil look at the natural world, one in which no influences exist, just shades of light.  The colors of each image influence the mood during observation but the rest of the viewing experience is left to the observer and their own mind.  It's a quite enjoyable body of work to produce, albeit, somewhat frustrating at times.  I'm simply manipulating what I see to produce each image, but I cannot manipulate what is actually there.  It is in the choices that I make that will determine my final image, which is proving to be quite an exciting journey!

The Birds and the Building

I was so happy to catch this shot one overcast day.  I love the look of this old building and the motion in the birds wings!  The funny thing is, they just kept circling from one rooftop to another, if I had had time to stick around, I probably would have captured a few more images of them above other buildings!  Another great thing is that this building is about 120 years old!

Also, on a side note, I'm going to be participating in a social media study through UW-L by staying off of Facebook, blog sites, etc. for ONE WHOLE WEEK!  So bear with me during this self-imposed break.  I'm hoping to use the extra brain power to dedicate a little more focus to getting a photography partnership set up!  So, until after the 17th...

The Pear and The Antiques

With the holiday season just around the corner, I thought that this image was a perfect fit!  I actually took it as part of a series for a course I'm finishing at UW-L, but it really lends itself to the feeling of the holidays (at least the wonderful feeling that I get)!  I think I'll continue to explore these images, slowly but surely, as I really do enjoy still life images.  We'll see where it takes me!

The Center of the Flower

This flower is now just a bunch of dried petals and an abruptly cut stem, but in it's glory it was just an amazing flower.  I came across it one day as we were walking around La Crosse.  It was part of a whole yard full of flowers growing just higher than the white picket fence that held them in.  It made me think of simpler times.  Ah...lovely!

The Beauty in Death

This is a small sampling of my latest project (finally one that I'm working on just because I want to, not for any specific reason).  I wanted to capture the essense of fall, but I wasn't satisfied with what I was getting from the normal scene of fall colors on the trees.  As my mom and I were out walking one day, I saw a gorgeous leaf that had fallen from it's branches.  It was slightly dried up and at the end of it's life, but it was too beautiful to pass by.  That essentially how I got started exploring this idea of "beauty in death" and so far I've been happy with the results.  They're actually scanographs which I'm having fun with since I don't do them very often!

The Vines

Sometimes there's this feeling in La Crosse that these vines are swallowing up the town, tendril by tendril!  There are a ton of houses that these vines cover (which I'm hoping to do a series on soon) and other buildings in town.  I thought the contrast of green against red was too gorgeous to pass by without grabbing a quick shot.  I'm thinking I might like to do a large print of this for my wall, but first, I have to find the space!  For now, it'll grace the pages of my blog!

The Berries

Here's another diptych I arranged.  I love the look of these berries on the tree as the Fall weather rolls in.  I added a bit of a soft, bright light and a slight discoloring technique that I think lends itself nicely to the feel of this fresh image.  We'll see what other images I can combine for diptychs later.  I'm working on shooting specifically for this type of arrangement so I'll have a creative idea already prepared before the post-shoot work begins!

The Diptych

Here's a diptych I've been working on for some time.  I've decided to give myself a little project (as if finishing my degree and teaching some courses at the local community college and keeping busy with EIP photo shoots isn't giving me enough work)!  I'm going to begin a few small series of diptychs (two photographs put side by side).  As I go, if I end up with some cool ones, I'll make sure to post them.  For now, this is my first. 

Also, if you haven't already noticed, I've changed my logo once more.  I actually have an idea for a small modification I'll be making to this new one.  Once that's done, I'll be settled.  That'll be my logo for a while and I'll go ahead and get a new batch of business cards with that one on it!

The Falling Leaves

In honor of Fall's chilly arrival, I have posted an image that reminds me of what Fall brings and all the amazing changes that occur during this season!  I can't wait to see the leaves begin changing colors and breathe in the cool, crisp air.  It's a bit colder this year than last year, at least to me, and I'm hoping this isn't a signal of an early winter!  The last few months of this year are going to fly by for me as I finish the last four courses needed for my Bachelor's degree!  I'm super excited about this semester because I was able to finish all my other courses this summer, leaving this semester filled with photography courses!  I'll be busy shooting, so keep an eye out for some of my latest work!

The Seaweed

I found these pieces of seaweed while walking along the shoreline in Hawaii.  I thought they were quite the interesting specimens so I brought them back to the cabin for an impromptu photo shoot!  I just love the colors of the first one, the texture of the second one, and the shape of the third one.  I wish I'd had more time to spend photographing all the small details, but you know how it is on vacation, always keeping busy!  All in all, I think these three make a great mini-series and, hopefully, I'll have the chance to expand on it later!

The Sunrise

Right after we got back from Hawaii we went to Duluth, MN to spend the weekend with our extended family!  I was gorgeous, but the cold that I caught in Hawaii only got worse and I ended up staying in bed for most of the weekend.  One great thing that came from all that bed rest was that the morning we were set to leave, I had slept so much the previous day, I was up around 5 am!  (If you know me, I'm definitely not someone who's ever up that early!)  I was eating some cereal that morning when this immensely bright light started peeking through blinds.  Of course, once I saw how beautiful this sunrise was, I traded my breakfast for my camera and got to shooting!  If nothing else, I left Duluth with this amazing shot and couldn't be more happy!

The Hawaiian Sunset

We were fortunate enough to be able to stay about half our vacation at these wonderful beach cabins operated by the military.  This was our view (literally, right from the porch) one evening.  We were getting ready for a BBQ and some of our guests were arriving but I just had to sneak away for a few minutes to get this shot.  The sun had just set and the moon was already partly raised.  There was a light breeze, the waves were gently crashing on the shore, and the sky was filling with magnificent colors.  We kept so busy during our vacation that I barely had a chance to take out my camera, but I was sure glad I did that evening!  This was taken at Nimitz Beach, which is in Ewa Beach on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.

The Beach Panorama

Hello Everyone!  I'm finally back to my blog!  I'm finally back home too!  We went from Hawaii straight to Duluth, MN just a day later, but I'm happy to report that I'm back in my apartment and back to my own bed!  Although, I did get a horrible cold a few days before leaving Hawaii and it is absolutely kicking my butt.  Hopefully all this Sudafed will take care of the problem soon because school starts on the 7th and I want to be in perfect working condition!

Here's a panoramic shot I took at Ka'ena Point on the Northwest side of Oahu.  It was absolutely gorgeous while we were there and we had a blast!  I'll be getting some more photos up soon, especially a beautiful sunset from Hawaii and a lovely sunrise from Duluth!  For now, I'm off to bed to sleep off this cold!
