Honeymooning | Wisconsin & Minnesota Photographer

What an amazing beginning of October we've had!  Not only did September bring many new clients to the studio, we also got to see a bunch of past clients as well!  So, we went into October in a daze, our minds filled with all the fun and happiness the busy days of September provided.  Then, on October 5th, I (Savanna) got married!  To add to the whirlwind, I travelled with my new husband to Duluth, MN for the few days of our honeymoon!  We had a blast taking photos together (he's also a photographer) and spending time together as newlyweds.  We found a magnificently gorgeous waterfall at the Duluth Zoo, MN.  We also visited the shores in Two Harbors, MN to admire Split Rock Lighthouse.  Now, we're back in the studio and back in the swing of things!  October is proving to be no different than September, with most of our days booked solid with shoots.  As crazy as it's getting, we aren't complaining!  We are loving the Fall!

The Farm Experience | Onalaska Wisconsin Commercial Photographer

Recently, I began working with a local publication called Greens Coulee Life, a magazine exclusive to the neighborhoods in Onalaska behind Coulee Golf and Bowl.  As one of the assignments, I was asked to photograph a local community farm located in the middle of the neighborhoods called Clearwater Farms.  It was quite the cool experience!

Besides seeing all the neat animals, including Frosty the (very friendly) Donkey and a very ferocious cat (who was actually just sleepy and yawning quite frequently), I learned quite a lot!  There were fancy chickens that actually produce eggs (I was told nothing beats a fresh egg) and a wonderful garden area where huge, healthy plants were growing.  The farm even offers special activities for members and other groups to participate in.

The Birds and the Building

I was so happy to catch this shot one overcast day.  I love the look of this old building and the motion in the birds wings!  The funny thing is, they just kept circling from one rooftop to another, if I had had time to stick around, I probably would have captured a few more images of them above other buildings!  Another great thing is that this building is about 120 years old!

Also, on a side note, I'm going to be participating in a social media study through UW-L by staying off of Facebook, blog sites, etc. for ONE WHOLE WEEK!  So bear with me during this self-imposed break.  I'm hoping to use the extra brain power to dedicate a little more focus to getting a photography partnership set up!  So, until after the 17th...

The Vines

Sometimes there's this feeling in La Crosse that these vines are swallowing up the town, tendril by tendril!  There are a ton of houses that these vines cover (which I'm hoping to do a series on soon) and other buildings in town.  I thought the contrast of green against red was too gorgeous to pass by without grabbing a quick shot.  I'm thinking I might like to do a large print of this for my wall, but first, I have to find the space!  For now, it'll grace the pages of my blog!

The Hidden Building

As we walked along this serene path, this little building peeked out from within the forest.  It was rather breath-taking.  In the midst of all the green, this light colored brick building stood, like a beacon of light!  I'm glad I had my camera at that moment!

The Shrine

Last weekend (4th of July), a few friends of our family came out to Wisconsin from Minnesota.  We decided it'd be fun to do some things none of us have done (at least in La Crosse) before.  We toured the Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine, which was absolutely gorgeous!  The photo above of the painted ceiling was in the cathedral and the other shots were from the nature that surrounds the paths leading to all the different areas of the gounds.  It did rain a bit while we were touring, but they have a bunch of umbrellas for patrons to borrow, which, thankfully, protected my camera!  We even ate breakfast there before the unguided tour. 

The next day, we took my dad's ocean kayak out to Lake Neshonoc.  It actually worked out great!  We had a blast!  I even took a turn on the rope swing over one part of the lake (I know, daring)!  All in all, great food, great company, and great weekend!

The Cass Street Bridge

This bridge is such an icon here in La Crosse; I was so happy when the weather cooperated enough for me to get this shot!  I actually shot this from a beach on the Minnesota side of the river.  This is such a different "beach" than I'm used to, but it was fun to visit!  Now that it's so hot around here, I might have to venture a swim in the river!

We did swim in a lake up here the other day and it was so much fun!  I realized I hadn't actually been swimming in two years, since leaving Hawaii!  But my sister and I will be visiting Hawaii again this August, so I'll be soaking up some ocean while I'm there!

We're coming up on the end of the Photo Composition - Beginner class that I've been teaching over at Western Technical College.  We have one session left, next Wednesday, and then it's over until the Fall semester...  I'll have to take advantage of the break and get all the powerpoints prepared for the upcoming courses I'll be teaching:  Photo Composition - Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced, as well as Infant Photography!  If you're interested in signing up for one of these courses visit http://www.westerntc.edu/lifelonglearning/!
